Our buyer was a Barcelona-based flooring distributor with 22 years in the Iberian market, supplying a 112-room boutique hotel refurbishment in Valencia plus its own 600 m² retail showroom. The specification was fixed before they contacted us: engineered European oak, 15 mm total thickness, CE-marked to EN 14342, fire classification Bfl-s1 under EN 13501-1, moisture content 8–10%, and delivery to Valencia Port before the first week of June 2026. The order value did not allow for a second shipment; the hotel's flooring contractor was booked from 8 June.

Their first email arrived on 3 March 2026 at 09:14 CET and contained 11 questions: moisture content tolerance, tongue-and-groove tolerance, top layer thickness, adhesive emission class, fire rating, third-party inspection options, loading quantity per container, production lead time, deposit terms, warranty length, and sample lead time. We answered all 11 in one reply within 8 working hours, attaching our certificate package as PDFs.

They then verified us independently, in this order:

Three sample boards were dispatched by DHL from Shanghai on 7 March 2026 and delivered in Barcelona on 12 March — 5 days door to door. Alongside them we sent two sample boxes from our Liancheng Solid Wood Flooring Catalog, because the distributor also supplies solid oak stair nosings.

On 19 March we ran a 75-minute technical video call from our finishing line in Nanxun, Huzhou, Zhejiang Province. On 25–26 March, the distributor's technical director and QC manager spent 2 days auditing our factory — 14 checkpoints covering incoming lumber, kiln records, glue batch traceability, in-line gauging, coating line parameters and container loading practice.

The confirmed specification:

  • Species: European oak (Quercus robur / petraea), sourced from an FSC-certified sawmill in Germany with log-bundle traceability back to the forest management unit.
  • Construction: 4 mm sawn (not sliced) wear layer, 11 mm 9-ply core, 15 mm total thickness. Sawn wear layers can be sanded and refinished repeatedly; sliced layers cannot.
  • Dimensions: 1,900 × 190 × 15 mm, 4-sided tongue and groove, 0.5 mm micro-bevel.
  • Tolerances: tongue-and-groove fit held to ±0.1 mm; length and width deviation within ±0.3 mm; thickness deviation within ±0.2 mm.

Production Process — 15 Working Days, and What Sourcing Engineered Wood Flooring from China Really Requires

Raw material was released on 2 April 2026 and finished goods were packed on 22 April: 15 working days, 3,402 m² milled against a 3,240 m² order — we cut 5% over to absorb grading losses and QC sampling, and the surplus stayed in our warehouse as future spare stock.

The sequence, in order:

  1. Kiln drying and acclimation. The oak was dried to 8–10% equilibrium moisture content over a 21-day cycle, then acclimated for 72 hours in a conditioning room held at 25 °C and 55% relative humidity. Flooring that is packed at the wrong moisture content will move on site, whatever the marketing says.
  2. Wear layer and core preparation. The 4 mm top layer was sawn from kiln-dried flitches, calibrated, and matched for grain and colour into Select AB bundles. The 11 mm core was assembled as 9 plies with cross-grain orientation to control movement.
  3. Gluing and pressing. Core and wear layer were bonded under a controlled press cycle with batch-numbered adhesive, which is what allows us to trace any finished carton back to a glue batch 14 months later.
  4. Profiling. Tongue and groove was cut on CNC lines and gauged every 500 boards with a digital profile gauge. Across the run, maximum measured deviation on the joint was 0.06 mm, inside the ±0.1 mm specification.
  5. Sanding and texturing. Three sanding passes, then wire brushing to open the grain before the light smoking stage.
  6. Coating. Six UV lacquer coats, each cured under UV lamps, with a 3-day post-cure before packing so the surface hardness is stable when the cartons are opened in Valencia.
  7. Packing. Boards were inspected one last time for bevel and surface defects, then wrapped, cartoned and labelled with batch, grade and carton number.

Every one of the 1,795 cartons carried a batch label linking it to a kiln charge, a glue batch and an in-line gauging record.

Quality Control at Liancheng Wood Industry — 1-in-30 Carton Sampling, SGS, and a 14-Point Client Audit

Quality control on this order ran on three levels, and the buyer used all three.

In-house QC. Our QC team worked a 12-checkpoint protocol. Moisture content was measured every 2 hours on 6 randomly drawn boards; the order averaged 9.2% at packing, with a range of 8.7–9.6%. Profile gauging ran every 500 boards. Three-cycle boil delamination tests on samples from each press batch returned 0 failures. Abrasion resistance on the finished wear surface was tested to ASTM D4060.

Client audit. Over 25–26 March 2026, the distributor's technical director and QC manager worked through their own 14-point checklist, including opening 6 cartons at random from the pre-production run, checking our kiln data logs for the previous 90 days, and reviewing glue batch traceability. They raised 2 observations — carton labelling font size and the position of the moisture-reading sheet inside each pallet — both closed within 5 working days and written into the packing instruction for the order.

Third-party pre-shipment inspection. SGS attended our facility on 24 April 2026 for a pre-shipment inspection under a sampling plan of AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1). The inspector opened 34 cartons — roughly 1 in 30 — and measured 170 boards for length, width, thickness, moisture content and joint fit. Two minor findings on bevel polishing were recorded, corrected on 26 April, and signed off on re-inspection. We also work with Bureau Veritas on buyer request; the choice of agency is the buyer's, and the inspection is booked in the buyer's name so the report goes to them directly.

The documentation that shipped with this order included the CE Declaration of Performance under EN 14342, the EN 13501-1 Bfl-s1 fire test report, CARB Phase 2 compliance documentation, the FSC C012 100 chain-of-custody certificate covering the volume, packing list, and the SGS report.

Shipping & Delivery — Ningbo Port to Valencia in 34 Days

Stuffing took place at our Nanxun yard on 25–26 April 2026. Both 40'HQ containers were floor-loaded rather than palletised: 1,795 cartons, 1,620 m² per container, with 8 moisture absorbers per container, belt-braced mid-shipment, and a photographic loading record sent to the buyer the same day.

The containers were drayed 145 km to Ningbo Port and customs-cleared in 1 working day. The vessel departed on 28 April 2026 on a Ningbo → Singapore → Suez → Valencia routing, with a published transit of 34 days and an arrival at Valencia Port on 1 June 2026 — day 90 of the cycle. Blocking and bracing timber was ISPM 15 heat-treated, and all documents (bill of lading, packing list, commercial invoice, CE DoP, FSC documentation, SGS report) were couriered and emailed as scans within 48 hours of departure.

Payment terms on this order were 30% T/T deposit with the balance against bill of lading copy — our standard structure, with L/C at sight available for orders above 3,000 m².
